Can I get smooth video and audio streaming using RDP on Windows Server 2012?

I have set up an Amazon EC2 instance, Windows Server 2012 and I am running WIndows 7 on my local machine. When I want to use the Cloud Server I use Windows RDP.

Sometimes I want to play a video on the Windows Server, using RDP. That can be a an MP4 or AVI file (with VLC media player), or a youtube video.

For now, the video and audio lag. Is there anything I can do to get smooth video? I know that RDP is not designed for video/audio streaming, but are there workarounds or tricks?
