Can't send email to addresses from my own domain

I have a site hosted on a LAMP ec2 instance through AWS with a domain through GoDaddy. I'm trying to get a php mail script working and have discovered that setting the receiver email to any external domain works perfectly, but setting it to an address within my own domain does not. For example, setting emails to send to example@gmail.com or example@school.edu works, but setting emails to send to example@mydomain.com does not.

No errors are displayed and everything seems to work, but the messages are simply never received. I checked with GoDaddy to make sure everything was working on their end and it is. There must be something within my own server preventing me from sending local emails.

Any ideas?
