AWS EC2 versus Google App Engine for location based photo-sharing android app

We are trying to make a photo sharing app which would be implementation wise similar to 'instagram' starting with Android platform. It will involve social location-based sharing of photos between users.

I know that

1. porting out off GAE is going to be a pain in future, but I am not sure why would I need to do that.
2. We are inexperienced when it comes to Admin work which is required on EC2 - not sure how much of it will be taken care by Elastic Beanstalk.
3. The most important thing is Cost factor- Initially, both offer a free plan, later on, the pricing details of both the platforms are very complex- not sure what would be the final prices when we actually deploy and run our code.

Some pointers about which one to choose would definitely help.
