Correct way to deploy a django app to EC2 with source code on Bitbucket/Github

I've got a django application that needs to be deployed to EC2. The source code is on bitbucket. I've been trying to follow this tutorial to use Elastic Beanstalk but I don't think it covers deploying using code from an external source. http://ift.tt/1QLXiYn

I've deployed Django to Heroku and that was a breeze but Heroku doesn't cover my requirements right now.

The only other option I can think of is to use Apache and somehow connect and RDS in my settings.py file. Any suggestions and guidance will be appreciated. Thank you!
