How do I set up an interactive website on aws?

I have been trying to set up this site on aws on all these different services for about a week. I am still baffled; frustrated to the point that I am considering trying something other than aws if I do not figure this out soon. Yes, I have read and watched all of the tutorials; and yes, I have scoured the internet for help that I can understand. No luck. I have code for the site (works beautifully on my computer). I have a domain (connected it just fine). Right now the site is static, so S3 is just fine. But, I need to add in a little JS or PHP that will be able to fetch files and display them to the user upon interaction. Were on earth do I start? Do I need a place to store the files (about 1000 .txt files) other than S3? How can I get PHP up and running if I need it? I tried working with a .php file instead of .html and my browser just kept downloading the file instead of displaying it. Do somehow connect Beanstalk or E2 to my S3? I like the GUI of S3, is there anyway to make that my starting point? I am anticipating this to be a conversation rather than a quick answer, but a quick answer would be incredible. I have never used aws before, but I have plenty of experience programing.
