I have an t2.medium EC2 instance that runs two R Shiny applications. Ever since I uploaded the second (and the server received some high traffic for one day), the server becomes randomly becomes unreachable.
It appears that all the EC2 services shutdown. SSH, shiny-server, apache, etc. However, EC2 still says that the server is running. I have to restart the server to get everything online again.
I looked at /var/log/messages and saw that there was one error about trouble switching between processors. I then upgraded from t2.small to t2.medium. I don't see any errors like this anymore.
Anyone have any ideas on where I can look to troubleshoot this? I think it's possible that the server gets overloaded and shuts down all services but there should be a log where I can verify this. As well, there's really not much traffic at all the past few days so I can't understand why there would be too much computer usage.
